Glen Schallman knew that Blake would be the shelter cat he'd take home with him.
"This little boy and I bonded," Schallman said. "He was meowing, trying to get the [shelter worker’s] attention, like, 'get me out of here!'"
But he didn't know just how important this kitten would be.
Schallman, who has a rare brain condition that causes seizures, had quite a serious seizure in the middle of the night while he was asleep, just a couple days after adopting Blake. Seizures in his sleep have the potential to kill him.
But then Schallman awoke to Blake sharply biting his toe, startling him awake.
If Blake hadn't bitten him, he said, "I probably would not have woken up."
And it doesn't seem like Blake biting him wasn't an accident, either. When Schallman had smaller seizures leading up to the night, Blake would pat him on the arm, giving him a look that seemed to ask if he was okay.
Thanks to Blake, he will be!
