Bellevus, N.E.—Last Sunday, the members of Bellevue Christian Center decided to exercise generosity in a big way.
Brandon Burge, a Jimmy Johns driver, delivered an order to the church and found himself on the stage.
"We challenged everybody in our church that this week each one of us would express generosity," Associate Pastor Walter hooker explained. "We believe that's how you change a community, that's how you change a state, that's how you change the world is expressing the love of Jesus Christ every day."
The church took up an offering for Burge which amounted to more than $1,000—all for a stranger they had never met.
"I truly believe everything happens for a reason," Burge said. "If I didn't believe before I definitely do now."
The money came at the exact right moment for Burge. His father was recently injured in a motorcycle accident and the bills have been adding up. Burge himself has been working hard to improve his life and make better choices, and sees this generous act as a sign that he's headed in the right direction.
"My life has changed quite a bit since last year," Burge said. "I used to be getting into lots of trouble. I turned a new leaf essentially staying out of trouble so I guess this is kind of God saying I'm doing a good job."
