The latest issue of Simple Grace features Dorothy J. Newton's emotional story of trading abuse for joy. Here, Dorothy opens up to Simple Grace about the spiritual routine that keeps her faith strong.
Dorothy starts her day by listening to a prayer program and praying for her children and ex-husband.
“I am also in continuous prayer for someone currently experiencing domestic abuse,” she adds. “Last, I pray for the team of people surrounding me, as I strive to obey God’s calling to share my own story of abuse, recovery, victory and hope, especially to those who are suffering in silence. It means a lot to me and I believe it matters to God.”
A survivor of domestic abuse, Dorothy has made it her mission to share her story in the hopes of empowering women in similar situations.
“When I was married, I experienced some of the darkest times of my life. I wanted to give up, but in the moment, I cried out to God. I felt so abandoned. After a time, I sensed Him responding to my fear and anguish with: “Fear not, for I am with you. I will not leave or forsake you.” From that point on, I stood on what He poured into my spirit.”
