Country music sensation, Charlie Daniels, has had his fair share of struggles and in our December issue, he tells Simple Grace how God got him through all of them. Here, he shares about the scripture that reminds him God is there and how God has proved this:
When asked to name his favorite Scripture, Charlie cites a special verse that reminds him that God always keeps his promises. “The 91st Psalm is a beautiful thing,” he says. “It’s a way of God saying, ‘If you call on Me, I will protect you. You are living in My shadow. Nothing can touch you.’”
This was especially true when Charlie visited a war zone in Iraq and came under fire while being transported to the military base where he was performing for troops. “As it was happening, I just felt protected,” Charlie recalls. “I felt we were in the shadow of the Almighty. The hardest thing is to remember what’s written in the Bible aren’t suggestions, they’re promises. When God says something, it’s a promise. He’s promising He is with us, that He’s always got our back. And He means every word. If we can bring ourselves to accept His word as fact rather than just a verse of Scripture, we can find so much more courage and peace.”
