In the January issue of Simple Grace, Jennie Lusko opens up about her journey through the unspeakable pain of losing a child. Here's an exclusive glimpse into the inspiring story of how Jennie came through her anger and grief to the realization that God never left her side.
Overcome by grief, Jennie and Levi left the cold hospital. As they got in the car, Jennie glanced at Lenya’s empty seat and paused. “Whether at the grocery store or out on the street, Lenya had always reminded us to ask people to come to our church,” Jennie says. “I had this overwhelming feeling we needed to invite the ER staff to our Christmas Eve service—Lenya would’ve wanted that.” So Levi, still weeping, went back in and asked the doctors and nurses to come join them in worship.
That Christmas Eve, two days before Lenya’s memorial service, the paramedics, receptionists, doctors and nurses all came; one of them even gave her life to Jesus that night. Jennie was temporarily comforted by their love and support, but after everyone had gone home, she was left with only pain and silence.
Months later, a friend and musician from Jennie's church shared a song she'd written the night Lenya died that forever changed the pain in Jennie's heart. To find out about the healing music that brought Jennie closer than ever to God, pick up the January issue of Simple Grace, on sale now.
