Jonathon Pengelly wanted a quick bite after a long night out. As he stood in a McDonald’s line in Cardiff, Wales, he noticed a staff member refusing to give the woman in front of him a simple cup of hot water.
“I don’t know what was going through their mind, but a lady, clearly homeless, was asking for a basic human right; and for a muti-billion [dollar] company, for them to say no is disgusting.”
Shocked, Jonathon told the woman to get whatever she wanted because he would pay for it. All she ordered was a cheeseburger. So Jonathan bought as much food as he could carry to make sure she wouldn’t go hungry.

But the kindness didn’t stop there. Jonathon sat on the cold floor with the woman and her friend and had a conversation. He even cried.
Jonathon learned the woman's name was Polly, and he invited her and her friend back to his house to shower. He cooked more food so Polly and her friend would have meals for a few more days. He gave them blankets, pillows and a backpack full of food.
“It costs nothing to be kind,” Jonathon said.
