In the latest issue of Simple Grace, five-time winner of the Gospel Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year Award and host of the TV show It Takes a Church, Natalie Grant shares how God lifts her up, calms her fears and helps her on her mission
In this exclusive interview, Natalie opens her heart and shares how postpartum depression robbed her of joy and left her feeling ashamed and guilty, plus how a famous Bible story reminded her that God can use trials to deliver blessings.
“Because of my platform, I struggled with [the depression] longer than I should have because of the shame I felt from it,” Natalie admits. "I felt as though people were looking at me to be the good Christian girl who says all the right stuff, and I just thought, But I’m a mess. I’m a fraud. I’m not even living what I’m encouraging other people to do. Sometimes we find ourselves in the pit and it’s just easier to stay there than to do the work of getting out. [God] is constantly extending His hand of grace saying, ‘Let Me pick you up out of that pit. Let Me help you out.’ We just have to trust and take hold of His hand.”
Natalie also discusses how she conquers her fears and doubts, and how she's answering God's loving call with Hope for Justice (HopeForJustice.org)—an organization that helps enslaved women.
