Joel Osteen Ministries
Pastor and bestselling author, Joel Osteen opens up about the pain of losing his father and how God led him through his grief to a remarkable future. Here, Osteen explains why we must trust God in our darkest times:
Grappling with profound sorrow and an uncertain future after his father’s death, Joel says he often fell to his knees and begged for guidance. “My dad was my best friend,” he confides. “I didn’t know how I’d be able to move on or how the church would survive.” But Joel says that God had a plan for his life—it just didn’t unfold the way he thought it would. “God doesn’t take us in a straight line,” he explains. “There will be twists, turns, disappointments, losses and bad breaks. But they’re all a part of it. Instead of getting discouraged and thinking, Why is this happening? I’m going the wrong way, the key is to trust God’s guiding each step, even if it feels like we’re going the wrong direction. He will slowly take that question mark and straighten it out into an exclamation point.”
During those painful, confusing times when life doesn’t seem fair and your heart is broken, Joel advises praying, “God, I know You’re still on the throne. I may not understand this valley I’m in, but I know that on the other side is my exclamation point!”
