Mom Jillian Benfield knew that she had a heavy future ahead with her son even before he was born. Doctors had told her and her husband that he would have Down syndrome.
But she never expected her friend from college to react the way she did.
Jillian wrote in a For Every Mom post that before got her son's diagnosis, her friend Allison's personal story had struck a nerve with her. Allison's baby sadly had Trisomy 18, and he died before he even took a breath.
Even though Allison and Jillian weren't close in college, Allison still spent time with Jillian during her pregnancy and helped her out whenever she needed it. After the baby named Anderson was born, Allison did something truly shocking.
She wrote an overly generous check for Anderson's future college fund.
Jillian wrote, "Why? Because she knew we needed it. No, not the money. We needed someone to believe in him, to believe in us as his parents, to believe that our dreams were worth dreaming."
Even better, Jillian and her husband were inspired to pay it forward that same month to another friend whose son suffers from chronic health issues, and they sent them a check to help pay for some medical bills.
Sometimes, it just takes one act of kindness to make a truly beautiful chain reaction like this. And no one knows this better now than Jillian.
Jillian wrote, "To Allison, you have no idea what your act of kindness meant to us that day and how it continues to shape how we live our lives today. Thank you so very much."
