Of course, Hanaumi eventually escorted the group out of the lot, but not before they recorded their heartwarming interaction with the officer. Their YouTube video reached more than 100,000 views and positive comments, but the story didn't end there.
Hanaumi has now been joining teens to skate on a weekly basis at the Bellevue Skatepark in Washington, and warming hearts all along the way.
"It was easy to build a rapport with them because I could actually understand what they were talking about," Hanaumi said. "I realized from that point on that skating was something I could use as a skill set to improve upon relationships with them."
Judging on the friendships he's made and the praise he's received, it looks like he's well on his way!
So I was cleaning up the park getting ready to close & a police officer walks in. Jokingly I put my hands up and pointed at @foxrio & said, "it wasn't me, it was him!". He chilled & watched for a minute until he took me up on the offer to go try it out. I'm over here like "stay on the bolts, bend your knees, blah blah" ... Little did I know, HE RIPS. Haha I'm so hyped. Y'all can believe what you want. I know for a fact there's good cops out there. Cheers @craighanaumi ! #coplivesmatter
