A homeless man became an unexpected hero after a friend invited him to stay at her Houston home.
The homeowner was lucky to have him around when earlier this month a fire broke out in the house in the middle of the night. According to KHOU11, Thomas Smith was able to pull the woman and her two granddaughters from the burning residence.
A loud boom woke Smith and led him to think that someone might've broken into the house. Instead, he saw smoke and immediately alerted his friend.
Smith told KPRC2: "I jumped out the bed and ran to her room, and something was on top of her— sheetrock and what not."
After saving his friend, Smith rushed to the granddaughters' room and got them out of danger's way.
Smith helped everyone escape the fire with no injuries. In an interview with KHOU, the humble man said he doesn't consider himself a hero and feels thankful to the homeowner for giving him a place to stay.
But he can't change our minds; we still think you're a hero, Thomas!
