Last year, 25-year-old Justin Smith was found totally unresponsive in subzero temperatures. He had been caught in a winter storm trying to get home, and was all but pronounced dead on the spot.
Despite his family's pleas, most of the doctors were convinced that there was no hope for Smith. But then Dr. Gerald Coleman spoke up. He knew that organs could still be preserved in the body even after a freezing trauma. So he wanted to try something.
He slowly removed the CO2 from Smith's body by extracting blood. Then, after a nerve-wracking 12 days passed, Smith's body warmed up and he finally opened his eyes again. And judging on where he is today, you'd never guess what he's been through.
