MEMPHIS, TN—A special education teacher at an elementary school is getting some much deserved attention this week after a photo of him walking home students from school went viral.
Carl Schneider is one of five teachers from Whitney Achievement Elementary school who take time out of their day to walk students home after school.
The Principal of Whitney Achievement, Debra Broughton, explains that "when we started to launch the school we recognized that there was a need in the community for children to be able to get home safely."
Almost two hundred students from the school live a mile and a half walk away, and Schneider and his fellow teachers have taken it upon themselves to make sure they have a safe journey.
While Schneider is flattered by the attention, he doesn't see his act of service as a big deal.
"This is just part of my routine," Schneider said. "I'm...really glad that people know the teachers in this community are really invested in the community."
