NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- A lot of joyful noise has come from Christ Presbyterian Academy, but this stirring, impromptu performance off school grounds may be the first to have captured a country star's attention.
Ben Ellis is a beloved high school Latin teacher. He recently declined further treatment after learning his esophageal cancer had spread to his lungs, according to FranklinHomePage.com. Since the frail educator couldn't come to school, school came to him.
"Students were in the middle of class, some taking quizzes and tests, and dropped everything for a bigger lesson on life, love, community, compassion," fellow teacher Leslie Ponder wrote on Tim McGraw's Facebook page after the celebrity shared the moving video below.
Shannon Lee Seibert, a mom of a student at the school, commented with the message the school's principal sent to parents about the abrupt change of plans and location for high school students that September Wednesday morning.
"It was a bit unorthodox," the note began, "but sometimes that’s just how the Holy Spirit calls us to be."
"Over the course of last night and into this morning, three separate and unrelated people approached me saying that while praying they received a vision of the high school students and faculty singing praises on the front lawn of the home of Ben Ellis, our Latin teacher who is battling cancer and who loves a good hymn sing. So, we loaded the buses and cars and went.
It was a powerful and moving outpouring of love that our students were able to bestow upon a man who loves us well.
We returned to campus and went straight into chapel, where we prayed and praised God. It was broken and beautiful."
A friend sent the video to Tim McGraw, and he just had to share it with his 8 million followers. The video has since been viewed 19 million times. Just seconds into it, you'll understand why.
