A mom named Wendy promised her son Everett that she'd take him to a park after a long day of traveling and a doctor's appointment. So Wendy and her little boy, who has Down syndrome, found a quiet park tucked away in a new and unfamiliar area of town.
There was no one around except for one man.
The 30-something man began shooting basketball hoops, minding his own business, when Everett took a special interest in him.
"Ball please," he said to his mom, before taking off and running straight toward the man.
In a viral Love What Matters post, Wendy writes that Everett watched the man in amazement, cheering him on even when he missed a shot. And before long, the man noticed.
She wrote, "The young man crouches down and introduces himself to Everett--his name is Shaun. I remind Everett to ask if he could play and he passes Everett the ball."
Before long, the two were playing together, laughing and having the time of their lives. That's why Wendy feels like the photos she took of them are so important.
"There is no judgment--just humans," she wrote. "Two humans connecting over a game of basketball."
