A "God Bless America" sign had been hanging outside the post office in Pittsburg, Kansas for nearly 15 years. But an unnamed resident recently decided they had a problem with it. So the Freedom From Religion Foundation got involved and filed a complaint that it violated the separation of church and state.
The banner was taken down shortly thereafter. But that wasn't the end of the story. Jake's Fireworks, a local business, decided to make a statement by giving away "God Bless America" banners and signs the next day. And boy was there a big response!
As it turned out, it only took 45 minutes for the 1,500 banners and signs to be sold.
State legislators even showed their support.
