Sometimes, beautiful friendships can happen from a shared experience, even if the experience itself is far from beautiful.
No one knows that better now than Doc, a rescue kitten who lost her paw after she tried to sleep under the hood of a car to stay warm. The Tipton family in California heard about Doc's story on television and immediately went to the shelter to adopt her. Of course, it is always heartwarming to see an animal, especially one who went through something as awful as losing a leg, go to a loving home. But it's the home this cat went to that makes this story especially moving.
The 2-year-old daughter of the family, Scarlette Tipton, has something important in common with Doc––she also is missing a limb. Due to a never-before-seen cancer that began developing in her left arm when she was just a baby, Scarlette had to get the arm completely amputated. When she met Doc, it's no surprise that the two warmed up to each other right away.
Scarlette's mom, Simone Tipton, said, "We wanted a little kitten to have [Scarlette] grow up with, so she has something that’s just like her."
And it seems like Scarlette realizes—and appreciates—the amazing connection they share, even at such a young age.
"She did notice that Doc had staples on her side and said 'owies.' I let her know that she had owies just like her, and she placed her hand on her side and just nodded. She recognizes that the cat has similar struggles as she does," Simone said.
Isn't it beautiful how God brings friendships into our lives that can change our perspectives and lives for the better?
