Cheryl Martin’s book, Distinctly You, is featured in the latest issue of Simple Grace. In this exclusive interview, Cheryl opens up about the greatest trial of her life and the prayer that got her through.
“My greatest storm was when, after 3 years of marriage, my husband no longer wanted the marriage,” Cheryl shares. “I was absolutely devastated. I had accepted Christ when I was child and only desired a God-honoring marriage. No amount of prayer, fasting or desire for reconciliation changed my husband’s mind. But during the hardest times, I experienced God in a way I never have before. I had an incredible sense of His presence throughout the ordeal. In fact, before the breakup, I had begun to pray this regularly: ‘Lord, let me build my house upon a rock, so when the storms of life come, I will still be standing. Lord, let me build my house upon a rock, so when the storms of life come, I will be still be standing.’ I didn't know why I kept praying that, but I soon found out. God answered that prayer. My faith did not falter. While I felt like a failure, God used this experience to make me more Christ-like. I have no bitterness, no resentment, and over time, God healed all my hurts and wounds. I am a whole woman.”
