In the October issue of Simple Grace, author and founder of Thistle Farms, Becca Stevens recounts her harrowing experience of childhood sexual abuse, and how God's love transformed her pain into liberation for hundreds of other victims of trafficking, prostitution, and sexual abuse. Here, Becca shares how God's love guided her on her journey to healing:
"I never blamed God for what that man did to me," Becca says. "I always turned to the Lord for shelter and comfort." But as the years went by, the abuse still haunted Becca. "I experienced anxiety around authority and had significant abandonment stress—even as an adult, I suffered the effects of the abuse," she says.
"But through it all, God was there and I knew I was meant to serve Him." So in 1991, Becca was ordained as an Episcopal priest. "I felt the Lord beckoning me to help other women—I just didn't know how."
