The January issue of Simple Grace features an exclusive heartfelt interview with Denise Jackson, wife of country superstar Alan Jackson. She opened up to us about how separating from her husband saved her marriage, and about the death of her brother and her fight to survive cancer. Here’s a sneak peak of the amazing spiritual wisdom she shared
In 2010, Denise was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Immediately, everything in her life changed.
“When you go along with your life and you think, Oh everything is great. I’m in control, and then you come against something that you have absolutely no control over, you have to look for God’s hand in it,” Denise explains.
After months of chemotherapy and prayer, Denise was victorious over cancer. Now when she looks back on that time in her life, she sees moments where God carried her through.
“When I started cancer treatment, the oncologist I was assigned to was on vacation, so I was sent to a new oncologist,” she recalls. “He was a wonderful man whom I’m thankful for, but the ‘God wink’ happened the first day Alan and I went in to talk to him. His nurse pulled me aside, looked me straight in the eyes and said, ‘Denise, I had the same cancer more than five years ago, and I want you to know it’s going to be frightening, but you’re going to get through this. You’re going to be fine,’” Denise shares. “Tears were streaming down from my eyes because only God could orchestrate it so that I got this new oncologist, and therefore heard the words of his nurse who’d gone through exactly what I was about to go through—wow!”
