Shirley Beard was devastated when she lost her beloved wedding ring, but she soon learned the most priceless treasure is kindness
DENISON, TX—On a chilly day in mid January, Shirley Beard’s wedding ring slipped off her hand and fell into a busy grocery store parking lot. To the 72-year-old, the lost ring represented the 5 children and 50 years of loving memories she shared with her late husband, Joe. “It was a symbol of our many blessings,” says Shirley. “But I just knew no one would return such an expensive ring.”
In the days that followed, Shirley’s faith helped her through the loss. “I just gave it to God,” she shares. “I thought to myself that I must be crazy because I wasn’t screaming my head off, but there it was…peace.” That’s when she saw the ad in the local paper.
The man who placed the ad, Brooks Frith, had found the ring glinting on the pavement. “I felt the love and the family that was in that ring, and it needed to find its way home,” he describes. It was a feeling his wife, Jimmie, shared. “Sometimes God gives us a little nudge,” she says with a smile. And that little nudge had a beautiful reward.
When Shirley opened her front door on January 13th, and saw Brooks and Jimmie with her ring, she burst into tears of gratitude as she hugged and blessed them both. “I’ll never forget how I felt in that moment,” says Jimmie. “It was terrific.”
“What this kindness has done is restore my faith in people,” shares Shirley. “The scripture tells us: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those that bring good news.’ And let me tell you, that is so true!”
