The December issue of Simple Grace features the incredible story of Ema McKinley's miraculous encounter with God. Ema suffered from reflex sympathetic dystrophy, a disorder that left her crippled and in severe pain. Here's a sneak peak of the night that changed the course of her life forever
Sweat beaded on Ema McKinley’s forehead as she lay on the floor beside her toppled wheelchair. It had been eight long hours since she’d leaned over and lost her balance, her chair tipping as she tumbled to the ground. “Help!” she panted for the hundredth time, as the most excruciating pain she’d ever known seared through her body. Terrified, alone and helpless, tears poured down Ema’s cheeks as she imagined her family arriving for Christmas Eve celebrations to find her lifeless crooked body. Surely, this had to be the end. Sucking in a breath, she cried out to the only one who would hear her. “Jesus!” she called. “I’m trusting You, my best friend. Take me home.” Waiting for her life to ebb away, she closed her eyes and let go. Suddenly, a whoosh roared through the room and Ema saw something that filled her with more joy than she’d ever known.
