Simple Grace is proud to be the first to reveal the cover of bestselling author Laura Bradford’s brand new novel Portrait of a Sister coming in June 2018. Here, Laura shares about how her writing deepens her faith
Laura believes that when God gives us a talent, the way we use it can serve as a gift back to Him. “I want my stories to touch people," Laura smiles. "Maybe they bring a moment of lightness on a tough path... Maybe they make someone think... Maybe they help someone to see that they, too, are more courageous than they realize... If I'm able to do that for someone with the ability I've been given, then maybe it is like a gift back to God."
Laura says that she also uses the depth of her characters to speak to people. In Portrait of a Sister, she believes the main character, Katie Beiler will speak to many. “We learn a little bit about ourselves from every person God puts in our life’s journey," Laura says. "For me—and hopefully you, too—Katie Beiler is one of those people. She is hit with a lot—the loss of her twin from her daily life, the death of her mother, her own uncertainty as to who she is/where she belongs. But, little by little, it is through those trials that she learns who she is, just as the trials we go through often help us learn who we are."
"Throughout my life, I've been reminded, again and again, that even some of the most awful trials in life come with a silver lining of sorts," Laura adds. "I believe that's God's way of letting us know He's there. Always. There are reasons for everything even if we can't see them."
