Bringing joy into our hearts—and yards!—is easy with these rustic simple-to-make bird feeders. Just fill each pot with a seed mix, hang it on a tree branch and enjoy the songs of God’s melody makers
- 3 3" plastic terra-cotta pots
- Electric drill
- 1⁄2 cup raisins
- 1⁄2 cup oats (or nuts)
- 1⁄2 cup wild birdseed
- 1⁄2 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shortening
Step 1: For each feeder, drill one small hole into the bottom of a 3" pot, then thread a long length of twine through the hole and tie it above the lip of the pot.
Step 2: Combine seeds, raisins, oats and cheese in a bowl and stir; set mixture aside. Melt shortening in a pan. Add to the dry mixture; stir until fat is absorbed and the mix sticks together.
Step 3: Pack pot with the warm food mixture; set in fridge overnight. (You will have extra food to fill two more pots.) To finish, gather both twine ends and knot around a tree branch.
