Prepare your heart for Christ’s birth with this beautiful four-week tradition
“During the busy weeks leading up to Christmas, pausing to light our Advent wreath is such a wonderful moment of peace,” says Heidi Hess Saxton, author of Advent with Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Each candle represents an aspect of spiritual preparation for Christ’s birth: hope, love, joy and peace. Light the first candle on Sunday, November 27, adding one candle each Sunday until Christmas. “As we watch the flames, we’ll say a prayer, sing or read a passage to rejoice in Jesus, for He is the light of the world!”
- 10" wreath
- 15–20 small star cookies
- 4 candles
- 30 cinnamon sticks
- 4 candle cups
- Twine and ribbon
Step 1: Start by attaching four thick red candles in candle cups to a 10" evergreen wreath using hot glue or strong-hold craft glue.
Step 2: Gather up to two dozen tiny star-shaped cookies. For extra flair, tie a length of baker’s twine around each cookie, as shown. Then affix the cookies to the wreath with glue.
Step 3: Create 10 cinnamon stick “bundles” by grouping 3 mini cinnamon sticks together with red ribbon. Glue the bundles to the wreath.
