Chonda Pierce opened her heart to Simple Grace, sharing her story of loss, faith and unbeatable hope. Here’s a sneak peek of what she had to say. You can read the full story in our April issue.
“Losing my husband has been the most devastating thing I’ve walked through in my life,” Chonda says quietly. “We were married 31 years. I remember saying on stage, ‘My husband and I have been married 30 years,’ and people would clap. But now I say we were married 31 years…and he died. It just wasn’t long enough,” she sighs. “Oh how I miss him!”
But Chonda insists she wasn’t alone in her grief—God was there for every tear, and He got her through it.
“Mother Teresa said, ‘God never gives you more than you can handle. I wish He didn’t trust me so much,’” Chonda says with a laugh. “It’s so true, but I believe God knows exactly what He’s doing. And if He knows what He’s doing, He must be there in the doing,” she insists. “It’s easy for depression or grief to make you feel isolated, like no one is there for you, but that’s a lie. God is there when everything falls apart, and it brings me great comfort to know I’m not walking this path alone.”
