Passion of the Christ and Person of Interest star Jim Caviezel shares with Simple Grace how surrendering to God’s love can transform our heart and train us to receive His greatest blessings. Here, he talks about his experiences and what he learned from playing the role of Jesus:
Just when he felt all the exhaustion and pain would break him, Jim says he heard God’s clear voice echo in his heart: How much do you want them to know of Me? Suddenly, a bolt of lightning surged from the heaving sky and struck Jim, illuminating his body and framing his face with fire. The crew was stunned and concerned, but Jim was miraculously unhurt and only felt pure calm. Amazed, Jim answered, Every bit of You, Lord!
In times of hardship and uncertainty, Jim turns to Jesus to light the way to hope. “There is so much darkness and pain in the world,” he admits. But Jim has learned that suffering can lead to the most beautiful kind of blessing. “I’ve heard people say that Jesus laid down His life for us so that we don’t have to suffer,” he says. “But when we suffer or experience loss and continue to love, we know the depth of Jesus’ sacrifice and can better radiate His love to others. It’s our way of standing up for God’s truth.” In that truth, Jim has learned two things: “God loves each one of us as if there was only one of us to love,” he says. “His love makes anything possible!”
