Tucking your daily prayer essentials into a beautiful pillow cover made from patches of keepsake fabrics (like your grandma’s tablecloth, your mom’s sweater or your son’s baby clothes) is guaranteed to fill your heart with joy, love and gratitude—just what you want to share with Jesus in prayer
- 16" square throw pillow
- Fabric scraps
- Extra-wide ribbon
- Sewing kit or machine
- Fabric glue
- Brooch or family heirloom
Step 1: Gather various keepsake fabrics and a throw pillow. To make the front of the pillow cover, cut four pieces of fabric into 8" squares, plus 1 inch all around for hem allowance. Arrange fabric squares facedown on a tabletop. Sew the fabric squares together (it should look like a four-pane window). Set aside.
Step 2: Snip another piece of fabric into a 16# square, plus 1 inch all around, to fit the back of the pillow. Use a slip stitch to sew the front and back of the slipcover together on three sides. Slide the throw pillow inside the opening, then stitch the cover closed.
Step 3: Snip two pieces of extra-wide ribbon to 42 inches; wrap one around the pillow horizontally and one vertically, forming a cross shape. Use fabric glue to secure the ribbon.
Step 4: To make the front pocket, cut another piece of fabric to 10" x 6" and sew it to the pillow front on three sides, leaving the top open. For extra flair, sew a sweater "trim" at the top of the pocket (keeping the pouch open) and attach a brooch.
