ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.—
When 22-year-old Kelley Johnson walked on to the Miss America stage wearing scrubs, no one knew what to expect. It was the talent portion of the evening and most of the contestants had done standard talent show fare: singing, dancing and other artistic feats.
Miss Colorado took an entirely different approach, and touched the heart of America in the process.
"Every nurse has a patient that reminds them why they became a nurse in the first place," Johnson began. "Mine was Joe."
She proceeded to share a touching story about the powerful impact of nurses on their patients, and reminded the world that she is much more than "just a nurse."
