Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is arguably one of the most beautiful ditties ever written. While its lyrics are comforting to some, it can't quite reverse the toll parenthood can take on new, sleep-deprived mothers. That's where Shannon Abbott comes in.
The Utah mom posted a video of herself singing a very different version of the classic. Performing next to her too-adorable baby in a high chair, she croons laugh-out-loud-funny lyrics sweetly and soulfully, including:
"It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it."
"When naptime comes, I'll sing, 'Oh, hallelujah!'"
"It's 3 A.M., and you're wide awake. Baby, go to sleep, for heaven's sake."
"Your daddy's asleep without a care. How does he do that? It isn't fair!"
Her rendition has earned her thousands of fans and complimentary comments, urging her to try out for shows like American Idol and The Voice. We agree with those, but also add that there needs to be a singing comedian show, just so Abbott can win. Until then, we salute her...and hope that baby starts sleeping through the night soon!
