Philadelphia, PA—Pope Francis's visit to the United States in September was a cause for celebration. Nearly two months later, one family is realizing that a single moment with the Pope may have changed their lives forever.
Pope Francis kissed Joey and Kristen Masciantonio's one-year-old daughter, Gianna, on the forehead during one of his processions.
It was a beautiful moment for a family struggling to keep their baby alive. Gianna has a rare tumor in her brain that doctors have not been able to remove.
"When we heard Pope Francis was coming I had a dream that she met him," her mother said. "I knew that he had to get his hands on her. It was a miracle him kissing her, her entire life has been miraculous."
In the two months since Gianna's interaction with the Pope, her tumor has shrunk considerably.
“I think this is all from God. I believe the Pope is a messenger from God,” her father said. "God is real, keep the faith. Prayer works."
