Claire Barker never expected to have a devastating stroke and bleeding in her brain at age 30. Nor did she expect the incredible thing that would ultimately save her life.
In 2009, Barker had what seemed like a run-of-the-mill headache when she suddenly began vomiting and feeling like her head had been hit with a hammer. Her partner Anthony called the emergency number immediately, but when she went to the hospital, she was in and out of consciousness for two weeks.
"I just said, 'Oh fine, but it'll be negative, as I've just had a stroke," Barker said.
What a shock it was when it turned out to be positive!
But that wasn't the biggest surprise. According to doctors, her miracle baby (who now is a happy, healthy 6-year-old) may have made her survival a miracle, too.
"The doctors said there was a chance the baby helped reboot my body, sending messages to my brain while I was in hospital to hang on," Barker said. "He saved my life."
