The January issue of Simple Grace highlights the latest album from Jonny Diaz. The album was inspired in large part by the birth of his daughter. Here, Jonny takes some time to explain to us how her birth changed his relationship with God
“The birth of my first daughter changed my prayer life,” he says. “I pray that she is beautiful but kind. I pray that she is talented yet humble. I pray that she is a girl who understands exactly what Christ did for her and I pray that she understands all the implications of that. I also pray that I lead by example in all those things.”
As a Christian recording artist, Jonny is often put on a pedestal, but he tries to stay honest about where he’s at with his faith, especially when he is struggling.
“If I’m honest, I’m still in a storm,” he says. “It’s been super tough, but I see God working. Even If I can’t see the end result yet, I see God’s faithfulness as we take one step at a time.”
In the midst of the trials he is facing, Jonny has an unusual response to the doubts assailing him.
“I let it simmer,” he explains. “I don’t want to dispel doubt too quickly. I seek out answers but I don’t want to rush into them. I hope to understand my doubts fully so I can overcome them fully.”
