Kissed with a blend of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves, this easy-to-make deep-dish apple crumb “pie” is guaranteed to warm your loved ones’ hearts on those crisp autumn nights
Active time: 30 min. Total time: 3½ hrs hours. Serves: 15
- 3 sticks butter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, divided
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. nutmeg
- ¼ tsp. ground cloves
- ¼ cup brown sugar
Step 1 Heat oven to 350°F. In food processor, pulse butter and 3½ cups flour until crumbly. Add eggs and ½ cup granulated sugar; process until dough forms a ball. Shape ¾ of dough into disk; refrigerate 1 hr. Separately refrigerate rest of dough for topping.
Step 2 Roll out disk of dough on floured surface to ¼" thickness. Transfer to parchment paper–lined 9" round springform pan. Press dough to evenly cover bottom and sides of pan.
Step 3 Toss apples in a mixture of remaining flour and sugar, 1 Tbs. lemon juice, 1 tsp. lemon zest and spices.
Step 4 Pour apple mixture into pan. Mix brown sugar into dough crumbles and sprinkle pieces of crumb topping on top of apples. Bake about 55 min.
Step 5 Let cool 1 hr. before removing from springform pan. Serve warm or at room temp.
