All hope seemed to be lost for the mother and her young son. First, the car they were in plunged off the highway. Next, flood waters swept their car away into a creek. And then, they traveled the length of five football fields, at one point getting sucked right under the highway.
But then, someone you wouldn't expect came to the pair's rescue. Rick Biddle, a homeless man who had set up camp near that creek, said his dog started barking when he heard the woman screaming. Biddle went in to save the mother, calling after her son, who at that point had been separated from her in the water. Biddle was able to find the son about a hundred yards away.
Both mother and son are reportedly doing okay, other than being cold and shaken up. As for their car, it's submerged underwater, a chilling reminder of what could have happened to them.
"God put me there for a reason," Biddle said of the experience. "That was it right there."
