It's more than icing on the cake.
Mom Lisa Aldrich was planning on picking up a typical birthday sweet for someone's big day at a grocery store when an employee handed her a cake with a shockingly messy icing message on top. She simply said, "Thank you" to the employee and did not request a new one. Though she was unbothered by the cake, cashiers and a manager crowded around her in the checkout line, trying to figure out what happened.
Aldrich shared a snapshot of the surprising design on her Facebook page and a caption telling the story, which has now been shared more than 91,000 times. When you hear what the cashier said to Aldrich, it's not hard to see why.
"The girl who wrote that has autism," the cashier said. "Thank you for smiling and thanking her- even though she's not supposed to write on cakes, you probably made her day."
Aldrich's takeaway from the encounter with the autistic employee was the simple message that "kindness is important." Read the entire story in the post below.
And as if being an inspiration to countless people who either have autism or know someone with autism were not enough, Aldrich has also taken the time to publicly thank God for helping put her story on such a mainstream radar.
She also reiterated her message of kindness, with an adorable photo of what is left of the delicious cake. For all that she has done in such a short time, we definitely think she deserves a piece!
