Vicki Courtney’s new book, Rest Assured, is featured in the January issue of Simple Grace. Vicki spoke to us about how she remains faithful during the times when God is silent
“We’ve all been in God’s ‘waiting room’ before and it’s easy to doubt when we don’t see God move and wonder if He truly cares about the details of our lives,” Vicki says. “I continue to remind my loved ones that He is in fact, weaving a beautiful story, even if we can’t see it at the present moment.”
Like many of us, Vicki is prone to worrying, but in moments when she finds herself filled with anxiety, she turns to prayer.
“Today I prayed very specifically for a loved one who is experiencing a heartbreak related to an ongoing situation,” Vicki shares. “She was on my mind throughout the day and every time I found myself beginning to worry about my loved one, I made an active choice to turn to prayer and practice Philippians 4:6–7, which says, ‘Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.’
“I love how it partners ‘petition’ with ‘thanksgiving.’ It is the antidote to worry and causes us to refocus our thoughts on who God is and how He has been faithful in the past to walk with us through difficult times.”
