Melanie Diane Jackson and Zella Jackson Price
When Zella Jackson’s grandchildren bought her a new smartphone and encouraged her to join Facebook, the 76-year-old mother of seven reluctantly agreed. But little did she know that the gift—and God’s love—would soon change her life in the most unexpected way.
St. Louis, MO—Early one morning, Zella’s new phone buzzed. “I was looking at a Facebook message that said: My name is Mahiska Mae Jackson, and my mother thinks that you’re her mother. I just want to know, are you my grandmother?” she describes. “I thought, this isn’t true, she must think I am someone else.”
But then Zella thought, what if? Until that moment, she had believed the baby girl she’d given birth to in 1965, weighing less than 1 pound, had lived for only a few hours. But after 49 years, she suddenly felt a spark of hope catch fire in her heart.
After Mahiska sent photos of her mother to Zella via Facebook, Zella knew her prayers had been answered. “I felt God go into rescue and restoration mode,” she says. “When I saw those pictures, those sparkling eyes, I just knew it was her. I saw all those pictures and I saw me. There was such a big powerful connection.”
Before she knew it, Zella was meeting her beautiful daughter, Diane, face to face for the very first time. As soon as they laid eyes on each other, mother and daughter fell into each other’s arms and wept with joy.
Zella says she hasn’t stopped rejoicing and praising God. “What a great thing God has done. Look at what He has done for me—the blood is still working! He gets all the Glory.’
